Short answer: You can share the Koala app itself, but not in-app purchases like Samurai, the mixer, or sample packs.
Both Apple and Google offer family sharing features that let you share app purchases with family members:
- iOS/Mac: Family Sharing
- Android: Google Play Family Library
These features work great for sharing the Koala app itself. However, there’s an important limitation set by Apple and Google.
In-App Purchases Cannot Be Shared
**Neither Apple nor Google allow in-app purchases to be shared through their family sharing programs.
** This means:
- Samurai — must be purchased separately on each family member’s account
- The Mixer — must be purchased separately on each family member’s account
- Sample Packs — must be purchased separately on each family member’s account
This is a policy set by Apple and Google, not by us. We have no control over this limitation and cannot make exceptions.
How to Set Up Family Sharing
On iOS (Family Sharing)
- Go to Settings → tap your name → Family Sharing
- Set up your family group if you haven’t already
- Make sure Purchase Sharing is turned on
- Family members can then download Koala from the App Store at no additional cost
On Android (Family Library)
- Open Google Play Store → tap your profile icon → Settings
- Go to Family → Sign up for Family Library
- Add family members to your group
- Family members can then install Koala from the Play Store at no additional cost
Why Can’t In-App Purchases Be Shared?
This is a restriction imposed by Apple and Google on all apps, not just Koala. Their family sharing systems were designed primarily for app purchases, and they chose not to extend this to in-app purchases.
We understand this can be frustrating, especially if multiple family members want to use features like Samurai. Unfortunately, there’s nothing we can do to change this policy.
